Shrub and Tree Care for Healthy Growth

Horticultural Pruning for small ornamental trees, evergreens and shrubs:

Horticultural Pruning

Dormant Pruning is a beneficial horticultural practice that is performed in the late winter months when deciduous trees are dormant and before new growth begins. The benefit of dormant pruning is primarily less stress to the tree, but the leafless condition of a dormant tree allows for access to the tree’s structure so it can be pruned to maintain the best shape and form. Properly performed, dormant pruning produces vigorous, new growth — and allows you to avoid many serious diseases.

A customized dormant pruning of your trees and shrubs will be performed using the proper pruning methods listed below:

  • Renovation/Rejuvenation – Cut the oldest branches at or near ground level. Sometimes entire plants are cut to ground level.
  • Thinning – Cut the entire twig or branch where it is attached to the main stem. Some stems are cut off to ground level.
  • Heading back – Reduces overall height or size of a plant. Cut off end portions of twigs or branches back to a bud or to another side branch.

Tree u0026amp; Shrub Fertilization and Disease Control

Dormant Oil Application

A non-pesticide product is applied to trees and shrubs, including fruit trees, to smother insects as they overwinter. This is applied in early spring or late fall.

Spring Leaf Disease Control

Prevents Apple Scab and Cedar Hawthorn Rust, in which the infected plant dies within two years. Three treatments prevent both of these diseases. This is applied during the spring.

Zimmerman Pine Moth Control

The Zimmerman Pine Moth feeds on all pines, boring into trees to deposit larvae. This one-time treatment prevents the infestation from hatching. This is applied during the spring.

Evergreen Tree u0026amp; Shrub Insect Control

This application controls insects such as aphids, spider mites, and sawfly from causing damage to your evergreens. This is applied during late spring.

Borer Treatment

A systemic insecticide application is injected to kill and prevent these beetles from boring into the bark of a tree to feed and lay their larvae. This is applied during late spring.

Japanese Beetle Spray

This spray covers the plant leaf surface to control the beetle population. It will remain effective for fourteen days after application. Repeated applications may be necessary for full control. This is applied during the summer months.

Foundation Insecticide Control

An insecticide is applied to your home’s structural foundation to create a barrier to prevent pests from nesting during the winter. This is applied during the summer months.

Wilt Proofing

Wilt Proofing prevents evergreen trees from suffering winter burn. This treatment is applied in late fall or early winter.

Emerald Ash Borer Treatment

This preventative application will control most insects from destroying Ash trees for up to two years.

Deep Root Feeding

This treatment will help create vigorous root development and growth throughout the year. Plants in bedding areas also benefit from this fertilization. This is applied in early spring or late fall.
